washing car cover
i have the honda cover and bought the fantastik that was recommended here. in the past i have used car shampoo to wash the cover with.
i must be doing something wrong, because i got a film on my (black) car the first day that i covered it after washing it with the fantastik... it used to take at least a few days with the car shampoo for this to happen.
i used two caps of fantastik (not very much, as the cap is pretty small!)
anyone have any ideas as to why i get this film so quickly? i thought that fantastik should be better than car shampoo, but not so sure know...

wanabe: I'm not sure how the construction of the Honda cover compares to the Multibond and Evolution brands, but it does sound from your description that you're having the same kind of problem that these two suffer from:
"The worst thing about Evolution (and Multibond) is that it begins to chemically break down after about one-and-a-half to two years of heavy exposure to sunlight and starts leaving a filmy residue all over the car. This isn't something you can just brush off with a California Duster either. It needs to be wet-wiped or washed off. With Evolution IV, this is the time when you use that excellent warranty. Covercraft, the largest-volume manufacturer of car covers, replaces a sun-damaged cover that is under warranty with a new one for only the cost of shipping (usually $10)."

both of my covers are the soft honda "dust covers"... and both are just a few months old. i think that the e-mail that you sent me might also be on the right track- i have been using the home machine to wash the cover in. maybe it does not allow enough water on the cover to completely rinse, even though it rinses twice. will try the recommended larger machines when i get a chance-

conclusion-
anything you wash the cover with will cause a "film" on the car if not rinsed out enough. i found out that one cap of fantastic is plenty. and if i rinse it three times it is perfect...
a bit of extra work, but it is nice to have a clean car that stays clean!!
