I was cleaning up my car this morning, and I remembered hearing that some people were using 303 on their dashes. Well, I took a damp cotton towel and sprayed some 303 on it and applyed it to the dash, it went on real blotchy, almost like the dash was rejecting the 303. So I took another clean rag with just water on it and took off the 303. My question is, did I do something wrong? I heard this stuff works good on the dash. Anyone care to try to help me?

Get rid of the damp cotton towel to apply. Use a dry applicator sponge or Carrand pump-applicator to apply it, then wipe the excess off with a dry towel. The 303 will bond to the vinyl, so you won't remove the protectant coat.

Oh, and although 303 recommends spraying directly on the dash, I find the overspray is a serious P.I.T.A. so unless you're using the pump-applicator, spray the 303 onto the sponge while not in range of any glass.

 

A dry applicator (or cloth) works best (especially to control overspray). I've never had a problem with a "blotchy" application. I do spray it on the soft top though to make sure it gets deep in the weave.

 

I've never had blotchiness problems either...I just use a cotton cloth and I spray directly on the dash. Not because I think it works better that way but just because that's the way I've always done it.

As a bonus, I have to clean the inside of my windshield all the time, so it's never dirty

 

Why is it that people recommend vinylex for the interior and 303 for the top?

I used Formula 2000 on my dash when I got the new car month ago. My red dash seemed blouchy too! I then saturated a rag with the Formula 2000 (made by Turtle Wax) and reapplied. The blouchyness disappeared. I suggest you do the same with the 303. I would not use a damp or wet rag unless it is saturated with the protectant.

It may be due to the relative glossiness of the products. Honestly, I've never used Vinylex on the S, so I don't know how it looks on the dash compared to the 303, that's just supposition on my part...

 

It may also be that Vinylex is easier to find. I know that I purchased Vinylex before I had ever heard of 303. The 303 is for exterior only, UNTIL I finally finish the Vinylex.

I was actually cleaning my dash last night with 303, but didn't have a cloth so i used a papertowel...
doesn't come out as nice.... it sort of leaves weird streaks.
got some on the leather, so i wasn't happy about that, although i didn't realize that leather is also something that it can protect.

not to jack the thread or anything, but has anyone ever had the 303 leave what looks like a stain on the roof? (or is it that i only properly sprayed that area and the rest of the top is not properly sprayed?)

 

i use both vinylex and 303... and agree that 303 can be a bit more difficult to apply. i always apply it twice and then buff it off. but i also do the same thing with vinylex-
and agree that i would never spray it in the car (makes a mess on everything else!); spray it on a rag or buff pad outside the car.
