Default UDM use, but for all DAs

I just purchased a UDM after getting a PC lesson for a forum member. I was taking off some swirls but it seemed to me that:

1. I used a touch too much QD on the pad as I had light wet smear, not quite runoff. Is this normal, or should I just use 2 shots on the pad?

2. I'm confused about the breakdown of compound- they all say don't run dry on the bottle, but I was taught and the videos show running the light polish to basically dust. And, for certain in 4-5 min the polish is dust.

I can't believe how fast the waxing part goes!

yes, love waxing with the machine- often i now hand rub the car (fingers) with wax and then machine it off. machine on is fun too. i like machines for synthetics cause you can control the amount that goes on the car. synthetics like to be applied so that you can almost not see the product on the car. some argue that the pad sucks up and wastes product, but to me thats just the cost of using the machine.

as for your questions:

1. yes, its just a light spritz. should not be enough to come close to running. i have a separate spray head for this- it puts out a very fine mist.
one to two shots on the pad is plenty.

2. does depend on the product. most are made to be broken down. as they break down, they are polishing - the ultra fine grit is breaking down. dust is a common sign that its done !

Thanks, just two issues that came up. I can't believe how well the UDM works, just the weight of the machine and 1 round of light polish and the car looks new. Took right off some bird damage that I tried 3m on and could never get it just right.
