Hi,

I usually wash my car once a week, or once every 1 1/2 weeks, is that too much? Does excessive washing result in dulling and fading of the paint? Is once a week excessive? Responses would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've done the "wash every weekend at a minimum" thing on a new car, and I've done the "wash rarely, and use a hand spray to get gunk off between them" and now I think I'm in the latter camp with my new S.

The reason being that the cars I washed frequently inevitably got swirl marks. Not many, and I took all the precautions, but it's still going to happen. Whereas my S (which is hosed off regularly but only has had a couple of real washes) still has a pristine clearcoat.

I don't know if this is a good detailing philosophy to live by but it's what I'm following for now.

I think you just said something that makes all the sense in the world. It makes you feel good to have it clean. That's all that matters. That's what owning this car is all about.
FYI: I believe this car has 2 thin layers of clear coat. I suppose you "could" start to wear these down, especially if you are washing every week. Waxing more will help keep your distance from the paint. When you make swirls and then you use some process to remove these swirls, you are cutting into the clear coat. Just something to think about.

xviper, i still remember seeing pictures of your car before its regular 6 month wash. i think to sway anyone listening from NOT washing their car often, you should repost those pictures.
