Eww too greasey engine bay. I find a once over spray and then using a junk microfiber to remove excess and redistribute to other areas (battery, hoses) is the best way to get a decent shine on an engine bay. I just can't stand when it has an overly greasey wet look to it.
Mine prior to selling, Megs APC + CD2:

The valve cover shouldn't have a wet look to it, just a clean look
Could of used more attention to detail though on mine, I just did a quick detail on the car. If I took the microfiber and got more on to the fuse box and all I could have removed the dust and make a good clean look

I usually wax on then off per panel...didn't know you could do the whole car at once
