Default Tips on road trip wash-

Soon I'll be going on a road trip of about 300-500 miles and I want my car to look clean at my arrival. My biggest problem will be bugs and dirt... another problem is I won't have access to a hose of any kind... Any idea's? Would Z8 and some rags work?

yes they will work..

since you wont' have access to water, i substitute all the time and Evian or any bottled works pretty good and you can throw it away afterwards..

My arsenal on a road trip:

Cali Duster
Assortment of MF towels
H20 / z6 mixture in a bottle
half of a zaino clay bar
separate z6 spray and MF towel
mini travel bottle of dawn,
wash mit
long thin rubbermaid container tray (like the ones you put left over food into the microwave with ) - substitute for a bucket. a real space saver.. just add the evian and dawn and you're good to go..
2 dirty rags for the wheels

That's about it..
basically almost my entire arsenal in little travel paks..

simon- dude, you should sell that as a kit!!
the only thing that i can think of that you might want to add to that kit would be a bug remover of some type.

super- just be careful to make sure that you dont have any grit (for example, if you have to drive through the desert with some wind kicking up sand, forget a short-water detail!) on the car before using rags with small amounts of water... to minimize swirls.

Thanks, I basically am driving down the california coast to go to D1 grand prix (Basically the drive is SF to LA more or less). Unfortunately... highway 5 has both dust and bugs

Would there be a risk to scratching the car? I might just use some left over washed out soda bottles and use those as a water source. I'll look insane doing it in a hotel parking lot, but oh well

I get the "he's insane look" ALL the time.. and I mean all the time.. but I dont' care.

I'd be cautious of residual sucrose / glucose content still residing in the bottles whereby making the water "sugar-ee" but do your best.

Scratching the car, can occur when improprely wiping the car with non clean MF towels or rags. Basically antything with any fine particles of sand, grit, road grime etc.. That is why I recommended the california duster first.

the p21s bug and tar remover
meguiar's also make one

For a road trip ...... I take a dozen or so MF towels, a spray bottle of Cinch(window cleaner) and full spray container of Meguiar's Final Inspection #34 detailing spray. I clean the car almost daily with detailing spray!
