Tar/Paint Removal Products
Hey Guys,
I'm need help in a big way. I recently drove through some type of Tar (my best guess) or black paint that has splattered all over my car. I need to find the best product out there for removing every bit of it, without weakening/hurting the paint. Price is no option as I wash my car weekly and keep it shining 24/7. I've never had this type of issue before, so input and suggestions are highly recommended. I'm also pursuing the County for compensation on cleaning the car. FWIW, 05 GPW under 10k miles and taken good care of. A big Thanks in advance!

I'd go for a solvent, such as Meguiar's Body Solvent. Spray on, allow to soak, spray off and repeat until it's a manageable mess that you can wipe off.
Good luck with it.

i think that it does depend on whether its paint or tar...
is it hardened? can you smell it (tar usually has a distinctive smell)?
i also would try clay in a small area. if that works, it was paint!
if its tar, clay could smear it around, or just ruin the clay.
then animes2k's solvent would be a good choice (actually it might also work for paint)... i like the autoglym tar remover, but have never had to use it on large amounts of tar. works great for small splats.
in any case, just to be sure that you know- any process will remove the protection on the car (wax, etc.) so you will need to rewax.

I thinking it's definetly Tar. It smears when you rub a fingernail against it. Thanks for the input, I will order the Meguiars solvent. Thanks guys. More input is welcome!!

Well, you'll want to use some inexpensive cotton towels on this because you're going to want to throw them out when you're done. I'd recommend a good heavy-concentration car washing afterwards, followed by a light polishing, and finally a good sealant/wax of your choice.
Good luck with the cleanup.

Just tried Meguiars Cleaner Wax with pretty "decent" results, It's a lot of scrubing and then buffing off.
I would wait for the Meguiar's Body Solvent you ordered to come in before proceeding. It's a pretty decent solvent so it should loosen up the tar pretty well without any scrubbing.

So what's the proper procedure with the Meguiars Solvent? Do I just dump some on then wipe away with cotton towel? Do I need to spray on? Hopefully UPS will deliver before this weekend so I have time to play with it and use it correctly. Any suggestions on the best way to use it?
