I am painting the taillights. I already did the fronts when I installed the clear diffusers. The taillights are already back from paint and ready to be assembled. I used paint thinner to remove the black sealant which was messy and time comsuming. Here lies the question when I used paint thinner on the clear plastic it became cloudy. After I was done removing the sealent I soaked it in warm soapy water. Them I used Mequiars Plastic X and the cloudiness went away. I want to clean the clear lens when windex before assembly. Is this ok to use on clear plasic.

you could use windex, but plexus is a better choice- it is made for plastic, and will also give it some protection. windex can yellow clear plastics (dont remember if this is after several uses, or if it can do it after one... imo, not worth finding out!!)

be sure to clean it up really well before you reseal the front lenses- cause if they arent sealed well they will leak. when mine were being done (by spugen, a sponsor here), a guy brought his in because they leaked every time he washed the car. they took them apart and resealed them for him.

Thanks for the info, the fronts are done and work great. I can see why more people do no the the rear taillights it's a PITA.

Hey thanks and now for the rest of the story. Last Thanksgiving I hit a deer. Insurance treated me very well but I was not a happy camper. The reskinned door did not line up the way I wanted and the paint when you looked at it at certain angles did not match. I drive the car about once aweek so I wanted it to look better. All said and done I got a door from a salvage yard and had the whole car repainted. 5K out of pocket but I am happy with the results. Here are some before pics.

must have been really scary- have heard of people hitting deer, but never knew one personally.

bad things usually seem to have a good ending- if you hadnt hit the deer you might not have the cool car you have now. i know its a strange way to think of it!
and cant wait for more pics of the new improved version!!

btw, like your key hole plugs- where are they from?

Key hole plugs are from Rick's: the ones that did not turn out very well and everyone got a refund. I had them repainted when I had the taillights redone.
