Streaks on my windshield! What do you use to clean windshield?
I am using windex on my windshield..and I get streaks all the time. Anyone have any better ideas? Cannot stand a streaky windshield!

The best glass cleaner I've used is "Gunk Glass Cleaner". It does have ammonia and does not leave streaks, film or residue at all. Even removes masking tape residue. Great product.
It's a little harder to find a store that sells it, but worth it.

I use WIndex and a towek to get most of the wet off and then a paper towel if necessary. If you have hard to get junk (water spots, bugs) off your windshield, my Clay Magic bar with spray takes care of it no problem. MAN I like that stuff.

I saw on Speedvision once:
Spray on your favorite cleaner(invisible glass)
Get the finest steel wool (yes that's right).
Lightly scrub the windshield with the steel wool. (careful not to scratch the winshield tape)
Now wipe the rest off with a paper towel.
I saw it twice so I know it was true

I wouldn't do that steel wool trick on our windows. They are extremely soft and would get the hell scratched out of them. Some people have tried using steel wool to get a few pits out of the windshield and ended up with some very badly scratched windshields.
I to the newspaper trick too. It works well, as long as the window is fairly clean. If it's dirty, I'd clean the window with windex and a paper towel first before putting on the windex and wiping it off with the newspaper. If you try to clean it with the newspaper when the window is dirty, you just end up smearing the dirt all over the place. I know this from experience.

I just went out to the garage and looked at mine. My Gunk Glass Cleaner does NOT have any ammonia in it. It says Ammonia FREE Foaming Glass Cleaner on the label. Even though it doesn't have any ammonia, it works extremely well. I can't stand streaks on my windows either.

To avoid streaks:
Take a cotton towel, washcloth size, fold into quarters (2 folds).
Spray your Windex or Sprayway onto the towel, not the window.
Clean the window.
Flip the cloth over to the "dry" side and wipe down the window again. This step will make sure no streaks are left behind!!
