Sponge or cotton mit?

I use two mitts. A synthetic mitt to clean the top and wheels/tires and a sheepskin mitt to clean the rest of the car. I like to use two buckets, one for soap and the other for rinsing the mitts. Make sure that the mitts don't touch the bottom of the rinse bucket. I also only use a clean part of the mitt on each section. I turn the mitts around and use both sides of them. I check the mitts after rinsing to make sure they are clean, before washing the next section.
I personally don't care for sponges and feel that they could scratch the finish easier than a sheepskin mitt. The down side of the sheepskin mitt is the lifespan, about six months.
Enjoy cleaning your car,
Bob

I have a mitt that I LOVE that's a blend of wool, polyester and nylon. I've used it for over a year and it STILL looks new, and still absorbs and cleans like a mutha.
The one on the left I started using in early spring '02 (and still use) and the one on the right is brand new. Boiler, maybe I should hire you as a consultant to field test my mitt to see if you get the same result! LOL!
I personally have some concerns regarding microfiber mitts - I don't think they have enough "pile" to really absorb all the dirt you'd get from a washing. I use them for applying Zymol Detail or Z6 - they work GREAT for that.
Sponges - really nowhere for the dirt to get "absorbed" into the material, and a higher chance of dropping it onto the (duh) dirty ground.

i'm in the middle of ordering another mitt right. i used to have the meguiars mitt..but now i think i'm getting the griot's garage one. is there any big difference between the one with the rubber glove lining and the regular mitt? (besides the $1 in price). the dimensions on rubber version is 1" bigger or so all around.

Advice - don't get one with a thumb. The non-thumb ones are easy to flip and give you 2x the cleaning surface.
rubber glove is not that helpful, unless you have some skin problem or it's REALLY cold outside.
