specks of dirt "baked" into the clearcoat...
i've noticed that there are specks of dirt embedded onto the clearcoat of my trunk as a result of my dirty car sitting in the sun too often. washing and slight polishing doesn't seem to remove them. does anyone know if a claybar will do the trick?? if not, then what you do suggest??

If I were you I would go to pepboys/walmart and buy the clay magic kit. It works wonders and took things off my paint that weren't even visible and left the whole car feeling/looking like glass. Clay does a great job on clearcoated finishes. You should use dawn to wash the car before you do it though to strip off the old waxes etc. and then with the car still wet you can just spray on the lube that comes with the clay magic bar or use a mix of about a capfull of car wash in a spray bottle filled with water and use that. Just make sure that while you are claying that you constantly spray the area you are going to rub and keep it really wet so that the clay doesn't stick. It's actually very quick and easy to do and took me all of about 15 minutes to do the whole car.

i agree that the first step is to clay to try to get the contaminants...
if that doesnt work, let us know and we can give you the next step (my guess is that the clay will do the trick).
