Simple solution to applying tire gloss
How do you apply tire gloss? Do you soak a rag and run it around the tires (with most of it dripping onto your garage floor or driveway), or spray from a bottle so that you get more on the rims than you do on the tires?
The easiest, cleanest, and best method I've found is to use one of those black, throw-away, foam paint brushes to apply the gloss. Either pour the liquid into a plastic container, and then "paint" it on the tires, or pour it gently onto the foam brush in small quantities (the brush will soak it up). The "V" tip is excellent for getting the liquid right down to the edge of the tire, on the rim. No more having to re-clean your rims afterwards, and you can use the same brush several times.

At the grocery store I found a small (1 1/2" x 2") sponge attached
to a clear plastic handle. The handle had a cap at the end and you
could fill the handle with your favorite tire dressing which would flow
into the sponge through a small hole. It even came with an extra sponge head.
Works great and does not make a mess.

Why don't you guys just run down to the nearest WalMart or K-Mart and get the right tool for the job? I have seen several brands, but what you really want is a foam applicator that is made just for this job. It is curved in just the right shape and one end has a point on it to get next to the rim. They work great!

Clive, great tip - I'll definitely have to try that!
The Meguiar's Endurance tire gel (great stuff) comes with a rectangular foam applicator pad. It works very well.

I'd have to agree with this. I went down to Kmart and bought the spongy tire applicator thing. It works great.

Wal-Mart was selling 2" diameter applicators. These hold a large amount of any protectant. They have a plunger to dispense the product. The application surface is very soft. They work very well to place a thin even coat of any protectant right up to the edge of the rim. I also use it to apply protectant to large flat surfaces of vinyl, etc.
