Should I claybar every year?
Last April I tried Zaino products for the first time. I washed with Dawn, claybared the car , washed with Dawn again, dried then Z1, Z2, Z6, Z2,Z6. You get the picture for a total of 6 coats over a week period. I haven't done anything since then except washing once or twice a week. It's time to lay down another half dozen or so coats of Zaino.I'm trying Z5 on my Spa Yellow this time around but wonder if the car should be claybared again, my guess is yes.

How often you clay is very subjective. Some will clay once and never look back. Others once a year and some every 6 months. It is not unreasonable to clay once a year. Since you are using Zaino, it is not necessary to give the car a "Dawn" bath...just give it a good wash and get on with it.
You say you haven't applied any polish in about a year. Zaino recommends an application every 6 months on a daily driver, and once a year on a garage queen for Z-1 users. Using Z-6 after washing the car will help maintain the polish.

"Try this test. Wash and dry your vehicle. Place your hand inside a plastic sandwich bag and lightly run your fingertips over your car's paint. It should be smooth-as-glass. If the paint has a rough, gritty or pebble-like feel, you have some type of contamination on the paint. Polishing will not remove this contamination. Remove paint contamination using one of these clay bars prior to waxing. "

I used a clay bar on my S for the first time last week. I bought it new in Oct '02, but I could already feel the embedded grit (contaminants). So I tried Meguiars clay with detail spray and was impressed. The finish is smooth as glass just like the day I brought her home. I'll probably clay 3 maybe 4 times a year depending on how it "feels" If you park outside then you may want to clay more. It only takes about 30 min to clay the car. After that I slapped on some Z1 and Z2...good to go!
