Default Shelf life for polishes/compounds

So last night I went to check and make sure I had enough of my current finishing polish (Optimum Polish II) to do a detail this weekend, and I had enough...but it's now of the consistency of water. The bottle is probably something like 1.5 years old.

I used to keep all my stuff in my garage, but made room in the house late last year to minimize temp swings. Do you guys run into polishes/compounds breaking down, especially those of you that keep them in the garage in environments that have cold winters and hot summers? I would imagine this would happen to lighter-cut compounds faster than it would something heavy and thicker, but could be wrong. Is there a general rule of thumb for shelf-life for these products?

One to two years. But when it seperate and looks like cottage cheese instead of goofy colored (or white) pudding. If you got clumps it's done.
