i detailed my friends 1990 Miata the other day with single stage paint so needless to say my pads are now all blue, i soaked them and tried to clean them like normal but they are pretty much a new color,....the blue wont transfer will it???

That's a pretty interesting question.

I don't think it'll transfer to your car. There's not a lot of places for the paint stick on the smooth shiny car, unlike the porous foam pad.

So I'll bet that it's probably not going to matter but this made me think would the paint in the pad affect the ability of the pad to cut when polishing. I don't know what to composition of SS paints are but if they are similar to clearcoats then it won't matter because I'm sure your (and my) pads have trace amounts of clearcoat paint in them, but we just don't see it. If the composition is significantly different or if the SS paint pigments are abrasive then this could (though I imagine it's unlikely) negatively impact a final finishing using a very mild polish like 3m Ultrafine or Menzerna P085RD.

My practical solution would be to suggest that your friend buys you some new pads.
