Forget the rope,get a cable and small pad lock from Pep Boys. Been using my cover everyday for almost 6 months now and never one problem. Does the OEM cover have holes on the bottom for a lock?

Is it possible to 'waterproof' the OEM car cover? I thought for sure when I purchased it for $200 new that of course it would be waterproof...It's almost worthless to me now, since my car is always outside and it rains all the time in VA in the spring and summer....Drives me nuts after I spend hours washing and waxing it, then it rains.
I'm thinking of possible using a 3M water resistant spray and spray the whole cover...It can't hurt, and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it....
Maybe this stuff will work?

Probably not a good idea to bump a 4 year old thread. But to answer your question, no, I would not bother trying to waterproof the cover. No breathable cover is going to be 100% waterproof. Even the expensive ones (ie, evolution or weathershield fabric) will absorb water in heavy rain storms. The only truly waterproof cover will be one that doesn't breathe, and that's bad for the car.
After many years of using covers outdoors, I learned to remove them when heavy rain was forecasted. Otherwise I would have to deal with a heavy, wet, unwieldy cover when I took it off the car, and I don't think it's good for the paint to let it dry on the car. I think covers are fine for keeping sunlight, dust, and light rain off the car, but not heavy/extended rain.

Takeshi, I didn't really assume it was waterproof based on price, I just figured that's half the point of having a cover and thought that would have been basic feature...The description was vague..
