want to make sure that you really dont want random orbital-
the hitachi is actually a reasonably priced machine for a non-random orbital... makitas and dewalts are even more expensive- again, only if you are sure that this is what you want (very easy to burn or damage paint if you are not really experienced with the machines).

Yes. What I want is not a random orbital. I already have the PC 7224 and have been using it for the past a few years. The rotary is what I want now.
my goal is one day become as proficient as Mike Philips from Meguiar's.. no joke he's the xviper of rotary work ! I'm close though :-)

but in a nutshell the world of Rotary work involves:
REMOVAL of swirls in half the time using a pc BUT..
a lot less room for error
try to get a "practice" panel if you can
gotta pay much closer attention
different feel
different end result though -
the pads in combination with one compound may not produced the result, so alternative pads with alternative compounds may be needed
speed control play a HUGE difference in product breakdown and in end result
time to "tape" otherwise, look out sling
compounds - #83, Optimum, Mezerna are the tops.
You will still need a pc to clean up its work
too bad you live too far away, I"m holding a Toronto Area Detailers 1st Annual Rotary Clinic in a few months. Starting with rotary work and end with DA polisher.
Repairing "rotary damage" is tougher than starting with a clean slate at times. You'll learn to hate black why ? With a rotary, one cannot hide.
why am I telling you.. every now and then I get jobs like these to repair for people, and it ain't fun. .

But once you become proficient.. oh man.. you'll freak out at depth you can get to PRE LSP..
I don't have experience with the Hitachi. I have experience with the Dewalt, Makita and Chicago tools/harbor freight rotary. For $29 the Chicago Tools rotarty may be a decent way to get your hands wet although for 95 bucks the Hitachi has great features.
