Default repair of bumper same as rest of car?

Does the same technique to repair chips and scratches on the autopia website apply to bumper scratches also? I can see some primer from deep gouges but I do not know how well plastic will react to the steps described e.g. sanding, filling with primer, applying silverstone paint etc. Also, have you guys had good results with silverstone paint from dealership?

gabe

I was driving down the 101 and 405 freeway when unavoidable object was in the fast lane. It ended up gouging my bumper/headlight, nail in tire.

depends on how bad the damage is...
generally the method is the same as long as the damage is not beyond the paint.

i have heard that silverstone does have some match problems. honda black seems the best and yellow the hardest to match. silver is somewhere in between.

sorry bout your car- sounds like you are o.k.- easier to touch up the car than to touch up you!

i assume that this is the autopia thread you are referring to?

If you're bumper is gouged it will need repair and repaint to look new again. If all you want to do is hide the gouge a little, by all means try some touch up. Keep in mind touch up work is a cosmetic process, not a repair. Small chips and light scratches can be virtually eliminated by a good touch up job, but generally you will still see any damage that's been done on close inspection.

The guideline I've always heard is: if you can feel the scratch with a fingernail, touch up will only disguise it, not repair it.

Unfortunately I see some black where the silverstone is on my bumper. There is definately many knicks and gouges. I will try to file off the chipped paint and fill in with the silverstone. I think I will wait to fully repair the bumper. I am going to Buttonwillow this weekend, you never know what you'll hit on the I5. Thanks for all the help guys.
