Default Removing orange peel on paint.

The car I just bought has orange peel on the front bumper and a fender. Is there a way to remove the orange peel look with store bought products?

only way I know of is to wet sand and compound. I think 2000 grit would do it and then compound, polish and wax. It'll take some time and you ahve to be carefull not to sand done too much since you dont know how much clear is on it.

Can you elaborate on this "compound"?

orange peel is the paint being uneven. to 'remove' it you need to polish it or wetsand it down smooth again.

compound is like a very aggressive polish used to take out deeper scratches like the ones after wet sanding. when I compound I use a wool pad with my rotary, then follow it up with a foam pad and some polish.

you have any experience wet sanding or using a buffer?

I wouldn't attempt it on your own, unless you ready to drop about $500-1000 on products, then test panels before you attempt to wetsand/buff your own car. I would go to a professional personally.

I have zero experience. Lol. Taking it to a professional is probably the best route for me then. So removing orange peel can be done without repainting the whole panel/ area right? What's the average price range to do this professionally?

Thanks for all the advice guys.
