Default Removing old wax from rims

I have a set of powercoated rims, I used some wax on them thinking it would be easier to remove brake dust from, but I believe this works well on Clear coated painted rims only.

Reason being it left a white residue which is painful to remove. I tried Dawn dishsoap and it helped a bit... a tiny bit, I have to use my finger to rub back and forth to get it off. At this pace I will have knobs for fingers.

I used a scrub pad (one used for my ceramic oven) tested a small area on the back and it didn't leave and marks, so I tried the whole rim and it didn't even put a dent in the wax.

Next step is to use a acid based cleaner, but I want to leave that for the last resort. Anyone else have any ideas?

Spray some AP on them and let it sit?

Trys some p21s wheel cleaner or meguiars apc diluted 4:1.

rinse the wheels, spray the cleaner on, let it dwell for about 5 minutes and clean with a wheel brush, then rinse thoroughly. might take a couple tries.

Good protection for wheels would be SV autobahn, smartwax rimwax, or duragloss 105. Apply in thin coats. 2 thin coats is better than one thick coat, and these products wont turn white or be too difficult to remove.

Any OTC suggestions?

I will be weary of waxes on powercoated rims, but I will try a spot in the back if I do

Thank you for the help!

try some simple green if you can't get APC. Also, if you have access, try using warm water. As a last resort I would try Wheel Brightener at a lower concentration like 6:1 and be careful with the uncoated wheels. Don't use the scouring pad if you can avoid it. If you haven't already, try a few different brushes.

Will clay do anything on them?

Update:

used Goo Gone Automotive Spray Gel, it worked but it took a few tries and ALOT of elbow grease with a plastic scrub pad

I think i'll try Rubbing Alcohol/Water 50% diluted on the front rims to see if it makes it any easier.

It's good for removing brake dust, but not wax it seems.
