Default Removing light swirl

Hi guys,

Friend just bought a brand new black STI car with some light swirls...can I recommend the following procedures for an effective solution (Comments Welcome):

Wash, clay if rough, if not proceed to 3M swirl remover for black or dark paint formula, then Klass ALL IN ONE(Red bottle) then Klass SEALANT(Silver bottle) then P21S carubua...

Anything else guys??

Thanks!!!

These are my thoughts...

Some would say that even a new car should be clayed as it has likely picked up some contaminants during delivery (especially if it was delivered by rail at all).

Also, the 3M swirl remover for dark cars is supposedly excellent, but has a lot of fillers, so it will not be removing the swirls as much as covering them. If the swirls are light, that might be the best route. HOWEVER, Klasse AIO has contains cleaners that will likely remove the 3M fillers.

My recommendation is to pick either the 3M swirl remover OR Klasse AIO, but not use both. If you go with the 3M product, you can go straight to the Klasse SG and then top with P21S. Klasse AIO has some light polishing capability, so it might be adequate enough to remove the swirls prior to sealing with SG and then topping with P21S.

Another route would be to use a light polish that does not use fillers if the swirls are significant enough. Some here can recommend some. I believe Menzerna polishes are filler free. After that, go straight to Klasse SG and then top with P21S.

Anyone else, please chime in if I'm mistaken on anything.

You hit it on the spot...I have a black NSX and i've been using 3m swirl remover and finishing it up with Klass AIO....

After using the 3m the car looks great. Then I apply the Klass and for some reason the swirls would reappear...

That ticked me off and I thought I wasn't careful enough with the 3m but I guess you answered my concerns.

Thanks CIVIC, now since this is a new car (well whether new or not), is it better to hide the swirl or simply to remove them? We know swirl will come back and since Subaru paint is known to be thin, by removing the swirl the thin will get thinner and thinner, should Covering be the way to go here?

It's hard to say without seeing it, but you are thinking about the right aspects.

wanabe is a big fan of using the 3M product in between necessary polishes to preserve the clearcoat thickness. My thought would be to start with that and see how it works in your situation.

However, if the 3M doesn't adequately hide the swirls or the swirls show up too quickly, it might be worth polishing and then maintaining the paint as much as possible with proper washing so that only the 3M is really needed to hide the most minor of marring.

That's quite a compliment, wanabe. I've learned a LOT from you and others on this forum, however I have limited practical experience. I plan to change all that soon, so hopefully I'll have some pics and can earn a badge.
