Default removing caked on mud/paint

I got my S used and on the bottom corners there's all this caked on mud... might even be some type of paint, but I doubt it. After like 100 car washes the stuff does not come off. It DOES peel off with a blade but it's just too tedious and risky to do that, I took off a few chunks with a sharp blade without doing any damage, but eventually did nick the car.... 1 tiny nick is better than 10 inches of caked on crap but still.

Is there an easier way?
