I personally deal with all of the Griots Garage stuff. They only use the orange pads for the PC, but have three different polishes, each with a different abrasive level. I like that system becuase it is really easy to adjust which one you are going to use to the severity of the swirls or scratches on the car.
And the previous advice on the clay bar was right on. You should always use that to remove surface contaminants rather than the polishes. The clay lifts it off of the surface where the polishes have the chance to push them inward or just sand off enough of them that you can't feel them, while still leaving something bonded to the surface.
