Default Products to clean wheels new to me

Sure I know this is the inside of the wheel and will hardly be seen as much as the outside, but I'd really like to start fresh. This stuff is stubborn, and I haven't even started to touch the darker ring near the face of the rim. So far I have just tried what I had in my garage which was Nevr-Dull and Motorex spray polish and wax just to see how tough this gunk was. Not much luck at all.

What products would you guys recommend for something like this?

I would consider starting with a wheel cleaner - Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner has done a very good job on many wheels.

Take a look at some examples. Click here

i use meguiars all wheel cleaner. what i did is take the wheel off so you can do the whole wheel. then spray the outside then inside. let it do its thing and rinse it off. then apply more cleaner and use a terry cloth to wipe down any dirt/grime. then rinse again. after rinse dry it off with a towel.

+1 on the Sonax. Follow the directions and use a good wheel brush after letting Sonax work.

sonax FTW definitely great stuff. depending on how stubborn the grime is you might need to do the process twice

P21S (you can leave it on for a long time), I've found that Sonax only works well for normal brake dust.

I would try Meguiars Wheel Brightener, which is concentrate and can be diluted to your particular requirements. It works really well in a situation like yours. Let it dwell for a couple of minutes and agitate with a soft brush.
Good luck

D'oh I didn't check this thread all day. I was impatient, since Sonax or something similar would have to be ordered. I tried Meguiar's Aluminum Wheel Cleaner and a brush repeatedly for quit a while and it barely made any progress.

Seems like the Sonax is popular, but after weighing the options I ordered the 1 gallon jug of Royal Brown by Flash for $17.99 + shipping. From what I've read it is comparable to the Sonax and at a relatively cheap price since I'll be diluting it. Hopefully it works as well as the videos and reviews, but I will def post some results.

Thanks for all the suggestions

I've also heard really good things about the Royal Brown from some pros. Sonax is definitely popular now and I've had decent luck with it on wheels that aren't in BAD shape. Those get acid.
