Well, I live in a city. I have no garage and no hose. If my car is dirty I take it to a hand wash. In some cases I have taken it to an actual machine was too. . . I know, its a sin, but my car seems to have survived.
Anyway, if you're on Long Island, Formula 1 Car Wash (formerly Mike's Car Wash) in West Islip is a full hand-wash operation. For about $15 you get 3-4 guys with sponges on sticks to wash your car. If you're in Philly, the Cherry St. Car Wash (I think its actually called Executive Wash, or something) does a hand wash for about the same price.

Personally, I've used different methods to clean my car depending on the weather and the amount of dirt on my car. I personally rank them as follows with the most ideal method at the top and the least ideal at the bottom:
1. Hand wash myself in the driveway
2. Hand wash in the garage using a low water product (Protectall QEW or Optimum No Rinse & Shine)
3. Run the car through a touchless wash (I do not dry after as not all dirt comes off, but at the wash there is a blow dryer.)
4. Hand wash in a self serve bay at the car wash
Notice tunnel washes are not on my list. The brushes will definitely put swirl marks in your paint. Also, if you go to a touchless wash where they towel dry your car at the end don't let them do it to your car. Waive them off and then dry it yourself with a quality microfiber towel.
On a detailing website I frequent one member has a great tag line "automatic car washes are like hookers . . . do you really want to be the next one to go in there?"

You would be better off posting this in your regional forum.
To answer your question - my driveway. I never take it to any car wash.
