I've read that it does take off the purplish "burnt look." To get it back? Not sure, maybe take it off the car and retourch. Obviously much easier on a shift knob than on an exhaust.

Could you use a normal metal polish or will that remove the blue tinge??

Maybe just wd40 with a cloth and just rub at it like nuts...

You might try tooth paste for a very mild polish or maybe as a final polish after using something a little stronger.

Yes. Metal polish can remove the burnt, purple-blue tint. I know; I've done it. I have a titanium shift knob that used to have a blueish-purple top to it. Metal polish removed this completely. This was Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. Something less aggressive, like maybe Wenol, might not remove it. As the others have said, test a small area first.

Since I'd already screwed the knob up, I attempted to re-color it myself. That didn't go well. I was able to get it to change color with a propane torch, but getting it to be even looking and uniform seemed impossible.

re-coloring the Ti parts is not done with heat but chemicals. dont ask me what ones but thats how they get a Uniform blue,
