PC 7366 backing plate conversion?
I don't have much use for a sander, but if I bought the Porter Cable 7336 from Lowe's can the sanding backing plate be turned into a hook and loop one? I'm sure it is possible because I see what Griot's garage has done. I am not sure how they did it? Type of adhesive, etc. They have some nerve to charge what they do for it too!
But has anyone else tried to make one using a sheet of adhesive back velcro?
If so, did it work? How long did it last?
I could not find any threads that helped so I thought I would try this open post and start a new thread. Thanks.

In the same vein does anyone have an opinion on the PC polishing pad that comes with the 7424 kit? I have read mixed reviews on this pad.
The CMA site does not mention it favorably and has them on sale for $2.95. They have a wide selection of Lake Country pads for sale. I went to their chat room and was told the PC pad is not very good. ?
But the Amazon.com site lists them favorably, some nice reviews and is selling them for $10.97 each.

Personally, I would not risk a home made velcro backing plate. The BP gets very hot sometimes during polishing which could melt the adhesive. Then the pad would fly off and you would likely damage your paint. You can get a good backing plate made by professionals for $10-$15. Repainting your car after damage done by your home made backing plate would cost much, much more. Also, I personally don't order much from CMA because their prices tend to be higher than other on-line stores. PM me for some coupon codes and website recommendations if you want.
The white pad that comes with the PC is total garbage. You could use it as a backer for a bonnet, but I hate using bonnets so no real benefit there. Plus, when you change pads these must unscrew whereas replacement pads would change much quicker through velcro or the Edge quick change system.

Thanks. I didn't think that the backing plates would get that hot. Now I know. I am looking at the Edge Pads, if not, will source out the PC plates, Coastal Tools lists both PC ones, regular and contour. The contour looks safer.
That at least explains why CMA is selling the PC pads dirt cheap.
