Default Painting Wheel Hubs

this might not be the right forum, but all of you seem into the details and this is one that gets my goat. i want to get rid of the rust that shows when the center caps are exposed. what process and what products should i use to perform this? i was going to get some flat black engine enamel to end my suffering, but i'd like to hear your thoughts.

this is the area i'm speaking of. in this pic there doesn't appear to be much rust, but i've seen other cars where its an eye sore.

you gotta be careful with this one...

anything that will remove rust will be harsh and you wanna keep it off of your clear coated wheels.

coca cola is used for rust removal and naval jelly is a more likely solution for you.
take the wheel off of the car first- and again be really careful not to get it on the wheel.
how bout some sorta hub cap as a solution?

something like this?? :

the rust appears to be on the rotor rather than the wheel. the hubcap option is outta the question becuase they cost $$$ and look like but i thought maybe if i masked off the rotor and sprayed the engine enamel everything would be okay. this stuff is rated @ 500 degrees so i think it'll be okay near the brakes. or instead of directly spraying i could creat a puddle of the liquid in a can and brush it on lightly.

if on the brakes, you can remove the wheels and try the naval jelly- i also use brakeklean on those areas... not as good as naval jelly with rust, but it can help.
a wire brush will also help with the process.

so, in summary- royal jelly, wire brush it then brakeklean, wash/ dry well-
and i think i would do an epoxy paint (like the one used for brake calipers).
i have done this on the calipers, but not on the area that you are talking about.

and lets see if anyone has other ideas!!

well i've been to 4 different stores looking for naval jelly and have yet to find it (2 hardware stores and 2 auto stores). i'm going to try simple green and see how well that works. i just picked up some dupli color caliper paint and will use what's left over to coat the outter portion of the rotors if the simple green doesn't take off the rust.
