PAINT JOB
Hi guys,
I went to the body shop and checked out my car (as my previous post said I am having it repainted). The body shop guy said that his new guy took the bumpers out of the booth before they had enough time to completely cure. It does not look bad but its not amazing either. I saw them when they first came out and it looked great but a day later its a bit dull. He said that he could buff the whole thing and it would look perfect again. Should I worry about this or is the body shop guy tellin me the truth.
Wanabe - he said he clear coated with the best clear coat on the market. I have been going to this guy for all my body work for years.

as i said in my pm to you, if the guy is honest enough to admit his mistake (which you probably would have never noticed), he is probably honest enough to fix this if the buffing doesnt work.
the added fact that you have been going to him for years adds to my trust in him-
however, as i also said in my pm, i am not a paint expert- and i look forward to the opinions of others too.

If you are a super great painter you can get the car to shine without buffing, I however am not and always need to wetsand and buff out the paint.
If it's just a little dull, kinda hazy looking clear then that's because it took too long to dry. no big deal, simple wetsand and buffing will get it right, actually better.
I wouldnt let him buff it just yet, I would wait about 2 weeks (depending on the type of paint) befor I had him buff it. Why you ask? Well paint can take up to about 30 days to competely cure. If you polish the paint right after its painted the paint will continue to cure and will be moving and shifting, it will dull again or orange peel lightly. You're better off waiting atleast 2 weeks.
The thing is because you look at the car every day you wont notice it's dulling, It's happen to me before, now I just wait 2 weeks before I buff it out.
Most important isnt the finish, that can be polished out, what's important is the color under the clear. Does it look right? is it blotchy? is it even? that's what's important.
Good luck
