Question Odd patch on dashboard

I have this small area on the front of my dash board right in front of the passenger seat. This appears to be where someone/some thing has rested there for a bit and roughed up the area or caused the condition of the dash material to deteriorate a little. It almost looks like residual armor all or something similar that has eaten into the material in some way. It has a shiny effect around the area.

it bothers me and eventually i will replace the dash it a fix can not be attempted.

Are there any processes out there to restore or resurface this area of the dash???

I can take pics this weekend (2-26-05) if this will help any of you out.

Thanks in advance

have you worked the area really well with vinyl cleaners?
vinylex, 303...
work well, buff- repeat a couple of times.
and do the entire dash.

I shouldn't ask this but can't resist. It's not the air bag cover is it?

LOL no very humorous question though

it is just below that "patch" LOL

it looks like the previous owner had a passenger that always placed a knee or something there and it has developed an "issue" in that particular place. Not excatly an abrasion, not excatly a discoloration, kinda shiny and distressed for lack of better adjectives. very hard to describe.

this warrants a picture or two because it is an important enough issue to me to want the best advice possible, the only way to get that is to provide the best description possible. it is rainy here in Tampa today so i will try to snap a couple of pics Saturday and update this post.

For those of you that have viewed this thread and have not replied, maybe the pictures will help define the problem a little more.

I do have the 303 vinyl cleaner and protectorant so i will try this after I take the pictures.

Thanks for the help, more input is gladly accepted.

I couldn't resist asking since I had just dealt with one of my techs who was trouble shooting and I wise assed an obvious solution and he hung his head and slunk out of my office when that fixed the problem. Hopefully it's not that the area is just worn smooth now and has no texture like the rest of the dash.

Hmmm.. I wonder what the previous owner did in the passenger seat of your S to cause this spot on the dash.
