not s2k but boat related
i am trying to help my dad get his new boat cleaned up a little. his black trim around the boat has old wax residue and other "ingredients" all over it. what can we do to clean and restore the original black "clean look" to it.
the next problem is he has two sliding doors and a few windows that appear to be black painted/coated aluminum/light metal. these too are also miscared for and need cleaning. i was thinking i can just clean, compound/polish these clean but want to get some feedback before trying. i do have a porter cable to help with these if it will help.
any feedback is appreciated.

first, we need to know what the trim is made of...
next, the painted areas are probably not clear coated. and you might not know how much paint is on there- so take it really easy (i would do a small section first). i would first use a light polish (either a paint cleaner or a swirl remover) with the pc. depending on how that goes would determine the next step!

btw, this would be the first place i would go for products and boat info:

trim is black rubber material with an aluminum strip through middle.
i would also not think the doors/windows have clear so i was wondering what i can use. i figure a paint cleaner i was seeing if the p/c is suggested.
i also did go on the properboat care site. i bought their pads for my car on the car site. i couldnt find anything there regarding this. this is a much larger boat than they are working on. it is painted with dupont "imron/emron?" paint. this is used in automotive/boat/airplane applications as it is a basecoat/clearcoat that is a very hard paint made to last and shine with minimal upkeep. the paint is in good shape but it is the little things we need to fix.
