i have read some stuff about what to do to remove the current wax on the car. I have decided to use some kind of clay bar and was wondering do i just use it on the whole entire car.

Will clay bar leave residue behind??

first you want to be sure to use a detailers clay... not just any old clay will do.

wash the car in the shade- you can then either dry or leave the car wet. if you dry it, you can use either a detailers spray and then clay (rub it the direction that air flows over the car- rub one area at a time). after you have clayed the whole car, rewash it and dry it. the clay process is finished.
you can also leave the car wet. i often use a foam gun because foam dries more slowly. if you leave the car wet, you have to make sure that it is not drying while you clay. i foam the car, wash it and then refoam it. then clay an area and refoam any areas that are starting to dry. after finished with the car, rinse then refoam and rewash. dry and you are finished.
wet claying works best in humid areas...

here is a how to video- bout half way down the page:

note that there are two chapters... chapter 2 is the real how to. and this is the dry method.

more dry method:

most clay bars come in a "fine" or "mild" form, which will not necessarily remove all the old wax. The best bet to remove old wax is to wash the car using Dawn dish soap. If it has been 2-3 months or longer since the last application of wax, then old wax removal isn't necessary, as there probably isn't any left on the paint.

most "fine" grade clay bars will not leave residue behind. The key is to be generous with the clay lube, do one panel at a time, and make sure to wipe the area down well with a nice, clean MF towel, flip over, then buff to a smooth result.

If it hasn't been more than a month since the last wax application, wash the car with Dawn. Dry the car. If it has never been clayed befrore, go onto DetailersDomain.com and order the Adam's claybar with clay lube.

Enter s2ki in the discount code area for 10% off.

dry the car, then clay it. using dawn once in a while wont hurt it.

I say dawn, because it's well known, VS using so junk from the dollar store. Just dont use it everytime you wash your car.

TurtleWax is junk. If you are just buying locally, look for meguiars hi-tech wax.

For polishes (if buying locally), look for the meguiars mirror glaze line!!

If you haven't bought clay yet, mothers and meguiars make a clay kit you can buy at the auto store or walmart. I have used the meg's one before. will come with a nice MF towel, clay, and the detail spray needed.

Follow the directions on the package.
