New To Porter Cable - Wondering what pads I need
My Porter Cable 7424XP just came in the mail and I'm new to this. I'm thinking about getting either Z-1 or ZFX accelerator, Z-2, Z-5 for Swirls, Z-6 "Gloss Enhancer" spray and a Z-18 ClayBar (this is what I came up with from scrolling through forums). But I'm extremely new to this; it seems like a huge jump from hand waxing and meguiars claybars so I want to be sure of what I'm buying. I also have no idea what kind of pads I should use for the PC either. So any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

I just used mine for the first time with ccs pads, I had good luck with Lake Country pads, I think mine are 5 inch. I used the orange pad on the entire vehicle for all of the polishing work. I bought a black pad to apply my sealant with but decided it was just as good doing a hand application of the sealant so I didn't use the black pad. I also bought a white pad for polishing but ended up using the orange for everything as it seems to cut a bit more than the white.
Just as important as the correct pads , is the procedure you use. I did areas of about 18 inches by 2 feet at a time, I did about 4 passes in each area with steady hand pressure on the pc and speed setting 4, I then let up on the hand pressure and used speed setting 5 for two to three more passes of the area. Removed the residue by hand with a good microfibre towel, I then wiped down the area with topper solution (50 percent rubbing alcohol 50 percent distilled water) , then applied my sealant. I'm pretty happy with the results, thought it is a lot of work, and I don't want to do this too often, lol.

white for polishing
black for applying glaze if you use it
blue for the sealant
i use lake country pads .....i use 6.5 inch pads,...as thats the size for the backing plate i have. no complaints.
i use megs 205 for defects on the white pad,.....shouldnt need anything more than that unless your car is really messed up.
Optimum poli-seal is great for an "all in one" product.
Blackfire for a sealant.
