Need some Advice on 1st time detail

1)DA has almost no risk
2)DA pad selection choice in materials and sizes are really good.
-4" pads cut much faster and they're useful for small areas
-6.5" pads make large areas go quickly
3)I spend just as much time with prep as I spend doing paint correction. So an 9 hr detail might have 4 hours of paint correction. even if paint correction was 50% faster, it wouldn't save that much time, and with the way I work, about a third of my paint correction time is spent removing polish and inspecting. I don't think a rotary will help me there.
If anything, I'd consider a FLEX for compounding, but I'd still use a DA for polishing.

i agree with you. i dont use anything larger than 5.5" pads on my pc and am totally happy with my results as are my customers, but the rotary definitely has its place.

Chinkieboy, if you haven't used your Makita yet and if it is possible for you to return it, I think you ought to consider doing so. A DA with the right polishes, pads, and technique will be able to do all the correction you will need on soft Honda paint, and if you need more correction, you can always purchase Meguiar's new microfiber pad and polish system. Polishing with a rotary takes lots and lots of practice, and finishing up with a hologram-free surface takes even more practice--and you sure don't want to be doing your practicing on your S2K!
FWIW, if I were purchasing a new DA today, I'd probably get the Griot's machine.
