THANKS!!!, I'm learning a lot from you guys. You may think it is simple, but to someone who's never heard this advice before, it is like a revelation. Now I need to source the Blue Painter's tape in different widths and get some more products. That preparation step never dawned on me before.

Thanks, but I have a moral reason for NOT shopping at Walmart. I don't want to get into politics here, so I'll shop somewhere else.

The 7424XP might be good, but I just bought a Makita 9227C-X3. I didn't want to buy two if I was in any way dissatisfied with the 7424XP, so I opted for this one first time out. I can see that polishing the cars will take a lot of time and be best done in cool weather. That means starting at dawn for me and finishing the days' work by 10:00 a.m.

I assure you that I find nothing to be simple or obvious. I spend a lot of time of forums and using Google. There is a lot of conflicting information out there.

I also avoid Walmart like the plague. I ordered my tape from Amazon. I just got a bulk pack of 1" tape and use that for everything. It was a lot cheaper than buying single rolls. FWIW, I use about half a roll per car.

I've heard that it takes years to learn to use a rotary properly.
