I jus recently purchased 3m sratch and swirl mark remover, and zaino z1, z2, z6. I didn't get z5 because i was thinking 3m would take care of the swirls and sratches. What is the best applicator to use for the 3m by hand? but most of all, how many layers of 3m should i put before putting on zaino? Thanks.

Read through the other posts here on using the 3m product. By far the best way to use it is with a random orbit buffer. You don't apply it in coats, you apply it and rub/buff until the swirls are gone.

i dont use either product on my s2k, but do use the 3m on another black car that i have... i use cloth covered pads- they are some type of sponge covered in cotton cloth. the number of "layers" is not important, as it is not something you are putting on as much as something you are taking off- it is actually a very fine grit that you are using to sort of "sand" off the swirls. use as little as works. i do one application then inspect. if i got all swirls off, i am ready for finishing (i use finish first). if not, i apply again. ususally a couple of apps does it-
i did have a problem recently as i applied late in the day and an evening fog rolled in. could not get the 3m off (could not get the car dry from the fog). had to wait until another day to re-3m it.
good stuff for swirl remover though!
