to try to answer your questions-

for medium/ light swirls i doubt that you need a compound...
compounds are the most aggressive polishes- they actually leave your paint hazed- so you gotta polish them out usually (with a lighter polish. the "step down" that you might have read about).

probably a swirl remover is what you need- and thats what i would recommend.

not sure that i understand what you mean when you say that you are not looking to buy high end products. imo thats all you should buy. cheaping out will only end up making you frustrated. besides theres not much diff between doing it right and getting cheap stuff in terms of cost.

I'm just trying to stock up on various items that I have a high chance of needing when the time comes.

I think I'll be needing a compound because I plan to be doing some sanding with 1500-2000 grit sand paper in some areas... and a headlight restoration.
-I already have 3M rubbing compound, is this any good?


Let me ask this instead... What products are most popular on this board for our clear coats? So far I'm seeing lot of menzerna and poorboy's products?

What I mean by I'm not looking for high-end products is products such as swissvax.

i like the 3m compounds, but thats cause i used them when they were invented!!
there are better choices now, and menzerna makes my fav polishes for our clearcoats.

we have a great thread on sanding and related repair work... let us know if you dont find it (in the how to section).

i will ask phil to hit this thread, cause he can give great input too

I would go with Menzerna, you probably only need these 2 products and a few pads.

I would look into

Menzerna SIP and orange pad

Menzerna 106fa and white pad

Then a good wax.
Lusso Oro or Swissvax Onyx

i have always believed in keeping it simple. the menzerna twins suggested above are a perfect solution.

lusso oro is also my fav wax for "finger rubbing", and its also good for normal folks waxing! i have not used the onyx.

teawins21- be sure that you do not use the nxt over wax. you could go the other way around.

Thanks guys for the help! I'm 95% sure I'll be ordering the menz twins.

Just out of curiousity, how do you guys feel about the wolfgang products?

I'm kind of confused about using my NXT wax now.. Should I just ditch it? I only used it once!

I read that you aren't not suppose to top off NXT with a sealant.

So I would just be doing:
1.Menzerna SIP
2. Menzerna 106fa
3. NXT??? and thats it?

i have NXT 2.0 and i think it's really pretty good. for the price, i think it gives me what i'm looking for. once your car is buffed out, use the nxt very thin, and apply at least two coats (wait 30mins-1 hour between coats). for an even better shine, top off with a good carnauba wax. i love the lusso oro phil sells over at detailersdomain and a lot of other folks here do too.

btw, the nxt is a sealant, and therefore that is why u don't seal ontop of it. it's a synthetic wax. only top off with a carnauba

For the money guys why not get Einszett Glanz
its proven its German and from my customers they have gotten great results!

4-6 months of durability.

Yes use this after the Menzerna and you should be good to go.
