Need Help Edge pads and XMT
Which Edge pads would you use with which XMT product? this past weekend i used XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover #3 with the edge orange pads. Moving slow and overlapping movement on speed 5 for about 2-3 minutes, I don't see a difference in the paint condition expect for tons of small scartched that looks like the letter j. Am i doing something wrong. which product and pad combo to use? i have the XMT Swirl Remover #1, 2, & 3. I bought the porter cable kit w/ the edge pads. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry no pics. Was working on a black 2002 BMW 540i. after working on the trunk with no progress i gave up. any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with those polishes, but the orange pad isn't going to do much if you're trying to get out large swirls that have accumulated on the car for awhile. Try using the yellow pad and your abraisive polish, then cut back with the orange or green pad and your intermediate polish. Last, try the orange or blue pad and your finishing polish.
To effectively remove swirls and scratches with a PC, ESPECIALLY a black car, you need to be working on speed 6. You have to let the heat build up and get as much speed out of the thing as possible.

I'd think they need pictures to help you out.....
you could be witnessing polish haze- its caused by aggressive polishes and is cured by stepping down.
pics should help us tell

You may want to think about how aggressive you are getting with your polishing. You may be getting more abrasive than you really need to. Personally, I've never even had to use speed 5 or the yellow pad (used my old LC yellow pad once and it delaminated halfway through) and I've detailed some pretty bad cars. In fact, I removed wet sanding marks the other day from a NES2KO member's project car (an Austin Healey) using an orange pad.

You need to be patience and at use green or yellow with at least 10 - 15 min per panel. then do the same with the other steps 3, 1, and finishing.

I've look at the videos's and read for months before even trying this, its a bit discouraging, and so i've come for suggestions as to how long to work a product in and which pads to use. I've read a thread in which someone used the yellow pad with XMT 3 and followed with the green pad with XMT 1. As for 10-15 minutes a panel, isn't that too long, or would i have to stop every 5 minutes to wife of the residue of the polish and apply more. As you can tell i don't have my badge yet so this is all new to me. I wanna be abel to control the porter cable before i move on the my S. Perhaps i'll try some more on my moms camry this weekend.

ok if the paint is really bad go with xmt3 and used a yellow if not go with green. On the panel measure the section you are going to do. Do not do the whole car all at once. Now set the pc on 3 to spread xmt3 then set to 5 and go left to right on the section slow then go up and down. Wipe with the cobra. Then change pad go with the one below use xmt1 and do the same on the same section. Wipe off with cobra now you use the blue or white pad with the xmt finish glaze. Move on the next section. Like I said it take patience.
