Feeling them by hand, yellow is way more coarse than orange. I'm not sure how much more it cuts because the orange has always been sufficient. Another thought is that for a DA, you can switch to a smaller pad for more cutting.
It is more coarse than orange and does cut more, but on a D/A your paint has to be really thin to worry about it. I've used both the yellow and orange quite a few times with Meguiars Ultimate compound with great results...but with anything you have to use good judgement and teqnique. It is always wise to use the least aggressive method that gets the job done.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the yellow pad. It's just that M105+orange has always been enough for me, so my yellow pad sits idle.
