john- we need some idea of your experience with swirls...
and a pic would be nice.
if the swirls can be covered, i always do that until they bother me enough to remove them.
assuming that you are to that point (from your post it sounds like it), then my fav product for a black car is:

http://properautocare.com/3mperswirmar.html

(i love to post that, cause its my car in their ad!!!)

anyway, my first choice for swirl removal is always by machine- do you have one, or can your borrow one? have you ever used one?

btw, excellent article here:

Last weekend I used Menzerna's polishes to retore the finish on a BADLY swirled dark blue suburban. Started with Menzerna's Intensive Polish then used their Final Polish II. Both applied with the Porter Cable. Completed it with 2 coats of Rejex. The result was better than I had anticipated! For your Berlina I would start with the Final Polish II. Unless it is in very bad shape one or two sessions with that should produce a very nice result. Then apply your choice of Zaino, Rejex, Menzerna FMJ, Klasse (all polymers) and top it off with a coat of P21S (Carnauba).
