my HUGE x-mas project
Iam trying to get the account with an ambulance company. They have a huge International ambulance that is going back because the lease is up and the want me to detail it. I am charging $250 for this job. They all ready took off the stickers and there is outlines of the stickers etched into the paint, the chrome is faded, all the lights are oxidized. The overall condition is not that great.
So far i have clayed the cab and applied megs #83 to the entire ambulance. I have started polishing the chrome and lights. The problem is that is is x-mas eve and the backing plate on my PC just tore off. Iam going to try to super glue if back together so i can finish the job. I have spent 4 hours on the rig so far with the help of my partner.
I want to to a good job on this ambulance so i can score their account. Which is 2 ambulances a week at $150-200 a rig. The guys that currently do it do a terrible job and the ambulance company recognizes it. The problem is that I also work for the ambulance company. Iam not sure if they want to pay me as and employee or have me get a businesses license and pay me that way. I have been wanting to get a license and really take it to the next level and if i can get this account i would be able to do that. Any advice on this would help.
Wish me luck, I hope i can get the backing plate to work so I can finish polishing the ambulance.

Call me Crazy, but i think your putting in too much work for so little pay. But that might just be me. Good luck to you. BTW I'm in OC, are you talking about the backing plate that comes with the PC, might have one for you to use.

now thats a job!!
get good before, during and after pics- for us and for your client.
i would just get edge pads, but if you like yours just get some new ones, or borrow some. if you try to fix yours, it will just keep breaking on a job that big.

I agree that $250 seems really REALLY cheap for all the work you'll have to do on it. Getting locked in at $250 for every $500+ job would be pretty frustrating. But it's also a good way to get your foot in the door, I guess. Just dont underestimate your worth and let them take advantage of it.
I have an old backing plate from my PC I can give you. It's pretty beat up though...dont really know if it's worth using. I just keep it "just in case".

At $250, I think you've spent money on tools, products. and knowledge to buy yourself a low-wage job. I can't see them paying you a fair price for future jobs when they can say, "But you did that big international ambulance lease return for $250 and this is job is much less work."
I hope I'm wrong and everything works out for you.
