My car is starting to develop swirls. Why?
So I bought my S2000 back in February and I don't think it had any swirls, at least none that I noticed. Now that the sun is out, I see swirls in direct sunlight, nothing serious, but they're there. I'm very anal as to how I treat my car, and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or not. I only use microfiber clotch/mittens, etc, make sure that they don't touch the ground, always put at least one layer of wax on the car, but I'm still getting swirls, why?

first off, they are more noticeable under sun or florescent lights. next they happen mainly by dirty rags.
if you have been using clean rags on a clean car, then the swirls were likely there. but again even when you are careful you will eventually get some. do you cover the car? do you detail spray it in between washings?
do a good swirl removal and then you will know when you are adding them if you inspect often.

The natural state of washed paint is swirled.
Like wanabe said, remove swirls and start from a known point. I thought my WRX was perfectly swirl-free when I picked it up, but it's got a lot of (very light) swirls now and I'm pretty anal about my cleaning process. I think something that the dealership used on it worked pretty well to hide those swirls initially.
I plan on doing a swirl removal this spring.
