My Black S2k.
Is it just me or is the black paint hard to get perfect? I have had a few other black cars and I never really noticed the problem with swirl and light scratches. Maybe I am being anal about my car, but hey. Does anyone have some expert advice on what I should do? The surface feels clean except for some small bumps. Should I start with Dawn and go to the clay and so on...?

i think this black is easy to care for... but i know i am lucky with where my car goes-
i detailed and used z1 and z2 this morning- applied the products with my porter cable and removed by hand. looks like a mirror. the car will stay new looking for about 3 weeks, because it is covered in the garage here and at work. all i have to do is dust it off and wash the glass- then, after about 3 weeks i will touch it up with some touch up spray that contains a small amount of wax.

I have black as well. Looks soooo nice after a good detailing (strip, polish, wax). I'm pretty happy with Maguires, until it's time to rebuy - want to try Zaino.
My Tips:
Spray detailing wax = weekly for fast, great looking finish
Microfiber clothes = no lint, excellent for touch ups and full detailing
You are braver than I am...some kind of random orbit sander I assume?

chroot - its a detailer's spray... lots of different products, but the one that i am using now is from griots and is called speed shine...
smspimp- yes, the porter cable is a random orbital sander that is also used for detailing... also available at griots for about twice the normal price! you can get it from a tool supplier (i have posted before) for about $100. the detail attachments are available from many detail suppliers.

This stuff must be awesome. This is my second black car, first as a Honda. I keep it garaged at home and work as well. I'm VERY anal about the car. I swear that this paint job is determined to show EVERYTHING under the sun though in the wrong light. I've had the car clayed a few months ago. Nice improvement but it seems to need detailing about every 4-6 weeks to keep it tip top. Black is beautiful though...when it's clean anyway.

I also have a black "S". Did some reading, I'm using a three step system from Mothers. Step 2 did an excellent job of removing the fine scracthes. I would imagine there are a lot of manufacturers that make three step systems. The second step is a sealer/glaze that hides a lot.
