Mini Detail
So I purchased a detail kit from Griot's Garage this weekend and it included alot of their products (including a random orbital that I played with on a different car).
Here is a shot of the victim wetted down.
First off is their multipattern spray nozzle with several options. My favorite is "shower". Flows lots of water but not with enough pressure to cause damage. It comes with a a little cup for you to put your wash soap in and with the twist of a knob it spreads wash on the car. It doesn't do as well as a foam gun but it gets soap all over.
Shot of the car with the soap spread on.
I used a Costco MF wash mitt and a 5 gallon bucket with warm water and about 2 ounces of car wash soap inside.
I used their Boars hair brush on my wheels.
I then used their squeegee (sp?) to wipe most of the water off after the wash was over. I like the California squeegee better. This one doesn't seem to get as much water off.
After using the squeegee I applied their spray on wax before drying the car with Coscto microfibers.
So I realize as I'm typing this that I didn't take any after pics of the whole car. Oh well. Here is a shot of the hood near the wiper nozzle.
Overall I'm fairly happy with their products. The car wash had great suds and the spray on wax left a very deep shine and filled in all the very minor spider webbing on my 07. Later in the spring I'll break out the orbital on it and do a fine polish and apply some wax.
I did my 18 year old accord yesterday. Totally stripped the wax, clayed and applied wax with the Griot's 6 inch random orbital. It took a total of 2 hours start to finish and that included a full vacuum. The results are incredible for 18 year old paint. It definitely could use some paint correction, but the car sits outside and I don't care to have the car look perfect.

From what I know, using the squeegees could be detrimental to the paint if you have any grit on it. I would just sheet the water off with the hose and dry with a microfiber or waffle weave.

^ very true
CAN be... but they can be very useful too. i personally don't use them, but if you did a hose down after buffing to get dust from polish off - i'm sure i'd b ok. just don't want to drag around any dirt particals.
thanx for sharing fastfour
