If you can find it, I know a lot of people swear by CD2 in an aerosol spray can. I've never seen it on the shelf, but there ya go. Sonus also makes a product called Trim & Motor Kote which dries to a shiny finish and is essentially a thin acrylic layer on everything.

Another, more time-consuming but really nice looking is to use products made for the various materials under the hood - once you've cleaned it thoroughly. Use a multipurpose cleaner/sealant like Klasse AIO for hard plastics, painted surfaces, bare metal... Use 303 or ArmorAll on rubber and soft plastic (wiped on, not sprayed).

It looks really nice when everything's got its own CLEAN look as opposed to drenched in greasy or shiny stuff all over the place. That's my take on it, at least.

what animes2k said!!

and at the top of our main page is a section on how tos...
the engine cleaning one is:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=278999

note that this is just suggested how to and there are lots of good products. i use citrus degreasers often on engines... and then, there are good products for engine brightening-
or as animes2k mentioned, you can use the same products that you use on the vinyl interior or rubber (tires) pretty much on the hoses and rubber/vinyl parts under the hood.

just be sure to dry it good before applying the protection (i drive it down the block and back before the protection step- but you dont want the engine to be hot).

Armor All works but it does seen to collect dust fast like any other dash shine or cleaner. Go with CD2 like others had stated, good luck and enjoy...

Armorall will actually ruin your rubber, vinyl and plastic. If you use it long enough on the same car you know what I'm talking about. I bought a car off my parent years that my father cleaned with armorall for years and the dash started cracking... that car had 209843miles on it. Armor all didn't help it at all. However it does leave it looking shiney

Stick with the CD2 its great stuff. Or do the whole thing by hand as animeS2K suggested.

that USED to be the case with AA. Now the formula is very close to 303, which nobody has any qualms with. Basically AA used to be a solvent silicone suspension and is now water-based silicone something or other. Anyway, it's been discussed to death and determined that yes, the old old formulation of AA used to cause problems (as will some current tire glosses) but AA is now quite safe.

Armorall is made of silicone emulsion... water based.
Like anything, moderation is the key. Although still at this point, once you start using Armorall, you should continue. What happens is the AA slowly starts to replace the plasticisers found in stock plastics and if you don't continue to use it, over time the dash/hoses will start to deteriorate.
