Maaco paint jobs?
Have any of you guys went to Maaco for their $400-500 paint jobs? I have an old 91 MR2 that has fading paint (especially on the fiberglass) that I kinda want repainted. Do their paint jobs stick? Crack, etc? Thanks

I had my 1979 VW Westy done at the local Macco and everyone who has seen it says it looks really good. It's only been about 6 months so I'm still not sure how it is going to hold up. Along with the paint job I had them strip the entire car, do some body work (NO bondo, all metal) and then repaint and I am happy with the results.

They can paint if they want to, it's just that they typically don't prep the car like a "real" paint shop would. A lot of the time they are careless though, and overspray can be found all over like on your mufflers and excess running in places.

But if the paint held up (and had a few imperfections) couldn't you just fix some of those imperfections yourself. i.e. Wet sanding runs and claying overspray (as soon as you get the car back)?
A freind of mine (lol we always have a 'FRIEND' who's done something) maaco'd his 91 comaro RS. It looks decent, the only thing is the top clear coat is ;bubbling on top of his front bumper. (to be honest I didnt' even think they clear coated anything.)

As with any shop you have work done at you need to inspect the work before paying for it. I had Macco wet sand and touch up a couple of spots that did not look right to me but if you are careful and look over the car before you pay you should be fine. Remember, this IS Macco, your not getting a Show Stopper paint job, you get what you pay for and in my case I was quite satisfied.

Like I always say, you get what you pay for.....
But if you are selling it the furture or don't pay to much attention to car. Then go for it.

If I was going to do a MAACO paint job, I would do the prep work myself -- sand, tape off, everything. It's all about prepping. Slip the paint guy a $50 and ask him for an extra few coats of paint and clear. Done and done.

I wouldn't ever even think about having a car I really cared about painted by Maaco, but a winter beater that just needs some freshening up to make it look a bit better sure. I'm actually considering having my DSM painted here in the near future at Maaco.
