Go buy a big container of the old-fashioned waterless handcleaner - GoJo, Gunk, etc. Not the new "citrus" crap but the old-fashioned stinky stuff. You can get it at any parts store.

Smear the stuff on the sap and let it sit overnight (in the shade or a garage - I can't say what would happen in the hot sun). Try to keep it away from any emblems or trim that are glued on or held on by double-sided foam tape, because it will soften and even dissolve some glues. The handcleaner is semi-solid at room temperature, so it won't run off vertical surfaces.

Of course, you're smart enough to try it on a small, inconspicuous spot first. After all, this advice comes from an anonymous source on the Internet. But seriously, I have used this stuff on at least one car that had bad stains all over the white paint. I just rubbed a thick layer on the whole car and let it work overnight (in mild weather). It didn't hurt the paint, but it did a wonderful job softening the sap so it would rinse off when I rubbed with my bare hand and lots of water.

[QUOTE=usace,Aug 17 2005, 03:05 PM] I don't know how aggressive tarminator is, but I've had luck using wd-40 in the past to get off tar.

Wow, cool. I rock. who knew?

Glad it worked for you. Most people think of wd-40 as a lubricant, but it is marketed as a cleaner too. It's a pretty good one, at that.

Actually it is also wonderful for displacing water - Like if your ignition wires get wet, a quick spray with WD 40 will quickly dry them out.

Actually, I am told that the original intent of this product was for "Water Displacement" which is where the "WD" in its name came from. Further, it was the 40th attempt to come up with a successful formula which is where the "40" comes from.

Ain't trivia grand!

It's horrible as a lubricant, pretty good as a cleaner
