Default lets say you bought a car that has been

bought a new (to me) work truck for short money - and i know i can make it look 100*s better with a detail (already did the inside and it looks great - i swear the interior was never cleaned before)

well the problem is that the hood / roof is filled with old dried tree sap - tried Tarmanator - but that did next to nothing, tried my porter cable with some dual action cleaner polish and while that brought back a nice shine - it did nothing on the sap - anyone got any sure fire ways to remove the old tree sap

(don't care if i swirl the paint as i plan to do a full detail afterwards)

Thanks

clay bar - least aggressive

rotary with mezerna (not porter cable stuff) will work - medium to high aggressive

wet sanding of course will work too - highly aggressive

I don't know how aggressive tarminator is, but I've had luck using wd-40 in the past to get off tar. Might work here. Worth a shot anyway.

And the claybar would be worth a try too

try a light buffing compound to get the large parts- then mineral spirits (or alcohol) should get the rest.

you will need to polish the area once it is clean, and of course rewax.

got any pics?
i would love to see before and afters on this one-

it may take some time, but a heat gun at the right angle to agitate off the surface, then IPA , then completely re-do smr and lsp work
