Lake Country CCS Pads
I'm new to detailing, so I spent a lot of time with my friend Google looking for information. It seems like they are pretty popular, so I decided to go for some Lake Country CCS pads. I have no idea how different the various pads would be because all I had to go by was their colorful chart. When they arrived, I asked my brother, who knows nothing of detailing, to try and figure out the order of soft/light cut to firm/heavy cut. He was able to get all of them (red, gray, white, orange, yellow) right. The red one is super soft. It was very obvious. The others took some time to judge. Yellow and orange were the hardest to figure out, but when he looked at it, the yellow looked more coarse, so he used that in addition to firmness (they were still in the bags at the time) to determine it.
Upon hearing his reasoning, I realized that I had not come across any good pictures during my searches showing the difference, so, here are some photos.
Here's a size comparison between the 4" and 6.5" pads. The 4" pad has square cut edges. The 6.5" pad's edge is rounded. This and the smaller diameter makes the 4" pad look thicker, but they are both 1.25" thick. (I checked with calipers because I didn't believe it.)
Here are some macro pictures of the various pads. Sorry for the poor focus on the white pad, but not sorry enough to try taking another picture. The images were taken using a tripod, so they should be very similar for comparison. The pad thicknesses varied very slightly, so some pad surfaces will be closer to the lens than others.
The white, orange, and yellow pads all had some dark fibers in them. I don't know if this is normal or not. The white had the most.
I'll probably put up some more pictures when I start using them, which won't be soon, because I still need to touch up some scratches.
