Keyed or scratched paint
What's the best way to get rid of some minor scratches. I tried scratch compound and I guess it's a little too deep. I'm trying to avoid touch up paint since I know I'll glob it on. Any suggestions?

Minor scratches can often be polished out, or at least minimized by polishing. The rule of thumb I've seen written on here is if you cannot feel it with your fingernail, it probably can be polished out. Just need to be careful how far you go with polishing as you don't want to go through the clear.
If it's deep enough to feel with your fingernail, and still too noticeable after some polishing, some have suggested filling with touch-up paint. To do this properly, the excess needs to be removed either with claybar (recommended) or wetsanding. Check out thetz99's "Scary Paint Chip Repair."
If it's down to the primer or metal. The only option is touch-up or repaint if it's bad enough.

00civicsi is right on-
only thing that i would add is if you can post up close up pics we might be able to tell whether this can be polished out or not
if it needs touch up, we have a thread on the how to...
